Wish You Were There

This is what happy shoppers look like at 5:30am while trying to take their own pic in a motel bathroom. We were outfitted in our overalls (more pockets to hold things in and totally comfortable) and Bebo's walkie talkies. Might I say the walkie talkies came in VERY handy! It also looks as though we may be hording nuts in our cheeks for later sustance but that is not the case. We just have cute pinchable cheeks. This is what Home Depot looks like at 5:45am. Bet you have never seen it at that hour! Notice the great number of men in line. They all tried to convience us that we MUST. GET. THE. SHOP. VAC. I had no need for one but they made it feel as though I was missing out by not getting one.
This is Babygator as the sun came up. She was the designated shopping trip driver!

Ya'll we had a ball. I really do not think that there was as many people out shopping this year as there was last. The lines were not bad at all! The longest wait was at Kohl's and that was about 30 minutes long. But I got some great stuff there for Bebo and Tybo so it was worth it!!

The list of places we hit include:

Home Depot

Sears

Beall's

JC Penny's

Hastings

FYE

The Olive Garden

Hobby Lobby

Bath and Body Works

Big Lots

Wal Mart

JoAnn's Fabrics

Coldstone Creamery

I had most of my Christmas shopping done already but I got some great *filler in* gifts.

The bestest little gift that I picked up for myself was a pair of purple SkullCandy earbuds. Got them at FYE. They were priced at $29.00 and I got them for $6.99. Now you all know me, I am a thrifty girl. Trust me...they would have been well worth paying the $29.00! They are comfortable and the sound is just amazing! They and my little Zen nano are very happy together.

My mom opted out of going this year. I hated that. Babygator and I do not do well with change, especially with such a long standing tradition but we still had a ball. ) My Mom assures me that she had a bigger ball being able to stay at home.) Everyone was super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.

Now, if I could just get someone to come over and pack up all my pumpkins and wrap all my gifts, I would be all set!

  1. Oh we really did have such a good time!!! I was disappointed that Mama didn't want to go, but we still had so much fun. I can't wait until next year.

(grrr this STUPID Google blogger beta CRAP) Had a lovely comment all ready to post and it made me sign in with that STUPID GOOGLE BLOGGER BETA CRAP and I lost it all. ANYway... it looks like you had fun. And I wish I hadn't had company because I sure would have rather made the drive out there and gone shopping, even at 5am, than have had the holiday I got stuck with. It's going to take me ten years of blogging to get over it.

Would you believe that I have NEVER done the Black Friday shopping thing?!

  4. Erm... was there a package waitin' for you when you got back?

  5. Glad you had fun! Too much for me. Y'all are some strong women. I don't believe in purgatory, but if I did I think it would involve standing in front of Home Depot at 5:45 A.M. on Black Friday. I'll just continue being my little cyber-shopping wuss self.

    Oh, and

  7. I want to be as pretty as you when I grow up!

How did you do all of that in ONE day???!!!! That's a whole week's worth of shopping and standing in line for me. Will you Christmas shop for me, pretty please??? With a cherry on top ;-)

  8. Don't tell her I said so, but I've always thought BabyGator is just gorgeous. Its all in the smile, I think!

Glad it was y'all and not me at 5:30 a.m. I can just picture you in line with a whole bunch of 'Tim Taylors'.

  9. You are two brave women. I avoid Black Friday like the plague. But, really, you should have gotten the shop vac. I just bought one, used it last weekend and kept saying to my spouse, "This is great! Why didn't we buy one years ago?"

(And, Mindy, several times over the weekend I returned stray shopping carts to their corral, thinking, "Mindy would be proud of me.")

  10. My friend Ruth used her shop vac to vacuum up all the acorns on her driveway. Now that was ingenious.

Aaawwww, I remember those days. Getting up before the rooster, meeting mom for coffee and heading out for the adventure. I don't miss the lines, crowds, or bargains. But I do miss the time with mom. Glad you made it unscathed!

My brother and dad tried to do the 5 am thing while we were in Seattle. They hit Sears for a drill (which I didn't understand because they couldn't take it on the plane home and ended up leaving it with my brother-in-law) and tried to hit Circuit City for a really cheap laptop, but the line outside was three blocks long and they were only letting people in two at a time, so they decided to forget it.

This is why I hate shopping.

    Thanks for blogging.

    Hey, Mindy.

I didn't have time to delurk last week, but I wanted to say... You sound like such, such FUN! I just love dropping by your "place" for a quick read. I think, being fellow Texan gals, we could hang out and shop at Hobby Lobby and drink Dr. Peppers and make Christmas crafts and just laugh and laugh and laugh together!

I don't visit often, but I'll make a point of dropping by more regularly, and coming up with comments instead of keeping to myself...

    :) Happy Start of Advent....

This wears me out, just reading it! I would have met you for lunch, but in my old age, I have gotten crabby and should not be allowed around hordes of shoppers anymore!

  18. I participated in the National Buy Nothing Day. Actually, i did buy 25 pounds of potatoes, a dozen eggs, an acorn squash, and 12 peanut butter cookies from a roadside Amish stand. It came to 12 dollars.
