UGH. This happened to me this summer. I got a macbook and LOVE it! Get word too and you can communicate with the world. Oh, and if you buy it for a student with a student ID (isn't there one in your house???) you can get the student pricing. If he needs one. Or decided to get one and then give it to an awesome mom who can change her own car battery.

  2. Being the artistic person that you are you MUST have a Mac. You will love it!!!

I know they are more expensive. So just say the word and I will kick off a telethon for you to have a brand new Mac. Plus there's lots of extras you must have too. Really.

(I'm getting tired of politics and need something far better to work on.)

  3. I *ahem* know a computer guy. I would be willing to negotiate with him to find you a good deal. You would owe me, though. (I strongly recommend a laptop.)

I'm going to join with all the Mac fans here and tell you that you "need" a Mac. As creative and smart as you are, especially with photos ... you will absolutely love it.

  8. mac mac mac mac mac mac.
ummmm, and then there is mac.
Mine is 5 years old, which in computer terms is ancient. But she runs like I just took her off the shelf, and never has been ill a day in her life. She is pretty even though she is old. I heart my iBook. (aka now macBook)
    p.s. I love you.

  9. wow. All of these Mac people. You must hail from MacLand. I've NEVER been on a MAC! And I know my son a.k.a. nerdy geek boy who knows it all wouldn't advise me to get a mac!

nipping...not too bad. I spend a TON of time w/her- I read somewhere to walk 5 min. per month- so if she is 3 months, 15 min. per day. we are doing that. Plus, I hold her, pet her- if I rub around where her collar is- that is VERY calming to her. I also brush her every day. Can you say SPOILED? BUT, sometimes, I think nipping is a sign of wanting attention- Milo used to bite me when I'd get home from a trip. I also think he was pissed at me!

  10. *glaring at all the mac freaks* My new notebook is a Toshiba. I didn't buy a Gateway because they pissed me off by buying eMachines and then basically fucking over the eMachines notebook owners... of which I was one as well. M's HP desktop is killer now that it's got the new hard drive after it fried at a month old... but my notebook is even better. And HP and Compaq are also now one company. Hub has the Compaq notebook, which also had the hard drive replaced at 11 months old. Hard drives suck these days apparently. And from experience, you will not get nearly as many years use out of a notebook no matter how cool it is. But I still bought another one when the eMachines one cratered at 3 years old.

  12. I have a Dell PC laptop because a lot of the software I need for work is not available for Mac. I don't have any problems with it. However, the Scientist would tell you there is NOTHING BUT A MAC. mac mac mac mac Yes it's a mixed marriage. Get whatever you want.

  13. well, a computer that has a hard drive WORKING is always advisable. My last computer was a Gateway. I'm mighty happy with it.

I would buy a Dell if it was me. (she said while ducking from all the Mac lovers!!)

  15. Yeah, I'd have to chime in with the other Mac lovers. We were PC folks (Dell most recently) until two years ago.

We switched to Mac and have been absolutely delighted. I'd say it took us about a week to feel comfortable on the new machine.

That said, they are more expensive. Our son saved for a few years and bought his own computer (with a matching fund grant from us). There's no way he could've afforded an i-Mac. So we went with a Gateway for him.

We had a HECK of a time getting wireless set up on the Vista system (64-bit). And few other buggy things. But (fingers-crossed) it's been good for the past few months.
