Pre-Wedding Garage Sale
I woke up the morning of the wedding and decided to go to garage sales. I had already gotten a bundle of ones *just in case*. Bebo saw my wad of dollar bills and asked if I had gotten them from "my other job". ~rolling my eyes~ funny boy.
The first few that we hit were a bust. I have a few hard rules about garage sales.
#1---Clean up your stuff. I do not care how wonderful it is, if it is nasty....I will not buy it.
#2---It is a garage sale. Put a garage sale price on it. You may have bought it at Dillards or Neman Marcus but it is now on your drive way on top of a cardboard box...price accordingly.
#3---Put a price tag on it. I am not going to pick up every item and ask *how much is this?*
I ended up buying things from 2 different garage sales. One was a DREAM and I could have bought more!! I spent $21.50 in all.
Here is my loot!
In this picture you will find a heavy store bunny with dried yellow roses (which Diesel was chewing on before this picture), a full/queen sized patchwork quilt in perfect condition, a tray with a tile bottom that I am totally going to re-do....you will see this one again! There are also tea cup wallies, an enamel ware pot, a crock pitcher, a glass pitcher, a brighton tin and a canvas snowman.
I got this wonderful pillow that matches my living room, another brighton tin (I am not even a brighton girl but I love their tins), a wire chicken basket and a fitz and floyd bunny bowl brand new and in it's box.
I got two brand new baby blankets. I was also able to get babygator 2 pair of shoes...one is American Eagle and the other was Girl Punk or something like that.
Why baby blankets you ask? Babygator and Biker are in the middle of taking classes to be certified as foster parents. They have already been forewarned that rarely do the kids come with anything. We have decided to just go ahead and start buying some things up and have them washed are ready for when they are needed.
This....THIS is what I love the most! I paid $2 for it and it is totally worth it. It is an old sewing box.
Look how purdy she is all opened up! A little Murphy's Oil Soap and she will look good as new!
And it was filled with treasures!!!!
Can you believe it? 10 cents for a card of buttons! These buttons must be old!!
And then there is Diesel....who just could not keep his curiosity to himself. He kept squinting his eyes because of the flash but it sure did not bother him enough to go on!
What treasure are you looking for?
.......ready for Saturday....who wants to go?

ReplyDeleteCan you keep your eyes peeled for a creepy clown tape dispenser with tape coming out of the clown's butt.
LOL....Babygator and I also do drive by garage sales Miss Smarty Pants. You can usually tell at a quick glance if you want to stop.
ReplyDeleteGod-Gurrlll....you are a BUTT! ~snickers~

ReplyDeleteYou really would like them in real life Kim...they are super cute!

ReplyDeleteCool stuff! I love garage sales.
ReplyDeleteabout rain barrels, they are fairly easy to set up and cost effective for watering the garden, I got 6-55gal drums, that 330 gallons of water I can use when it's not raining, which may not be a problem this year!) look into your local water dept web site they may have details and links to local people who sell used food containers for rain barrels cheaper than you would get them at say your local garden store, where they cost 70-250$!
we found ours locally from a farm co-op that sells used food grade drums complete with faucet fittings for 50-60$ a piece.
a little research will go a long way here, google is your friend!)
You found such treasures, especially that sewing box! I do not have the patience to look through stuff at garage sales, but you almost make wish I did.
ReplyDeleteI am so going to do that MamaBear! You inspire me!
ReplyDeleteJan....it is an adventure!!

ReplyDeleteThese are some seriously great finds! And that sewing box is the best! I was at a craft fair a couple of weeks ago and they had framed vintage buttons on the cards. They were selling them for a TON! I thought it was a cute idea - just not for that price haha.
ReplyDelete2$ for that box!!! I am fainting now.

Thank you for following me Amanda! Get your shoes on cause I am going to garage sales in the morning!
ReplyDeleteWow!! That just made me so happy to see the find you "stole"!! Those are just awesome finds. I was so miserably homesick for Virginia and this just made me think..."Hey, the panhandle might not be such a bad place after all!" Your blog is so cheery and uplifting, especially when I am feeling rather down about what I thought was going to be such a great decision. You definitely helped!!! I thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh Deep...thank you for your sweet words. Set your alarm and get thee to Amarillo in the am!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL...how did you know I will be moving to Amarillo as soon as I possibly can manage it? I noticed your new sewing box...do you sew? If you search on my blog for quilts or table runners or bags, you can see some of my work. I am a little obsessed, to say the least and once I set up house and get my machine here from VA, I will stitch up some small baby and child quilts for your collection of baby things.
ReplyDeleteTHE SEWING BOX! So jealous. Awesome score. Thanks for sharing. xo- Becky
ReplyDeleteOh Happy that is so sweet of you!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented!
